I am thrilled to announce that I graduated with a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health! I concentrated in Humanitarian Health and obtained an additional diploma in Tropical Diseaes. It’s been an incredible journey filled with growth, challenges, and unforgettable experiences.I am also proud to share that my capstone project, supervised by Dr. Nadia Akseer, has been recognized with the MPH Capstone Award for Outstanding Achievements. These achievements wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support of my wife, family, and friends - thank you! As I close this chapter, I’m looking forward to what the future holds.

Since I wrapped up my 2nd doctoral course this semester at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, I'm sharing some reflections about the insights I've gained about my leadership style. Throughout this course, I've distilled my philosophy into four guiding principles that are vital to my mission and vision in the realm of public health.🌟 My mission is to infuse creativity into public health, empowering professionals in this field to find and amplify their unique voices. It's about helping them shape their narratives and earn the recognition they deserve, highlighting the indispensable role of public health in our society.🌍 My vision is to see public health interwoven with the arts, fostering innovative solutions that enhance well-being. I envision public health professionals as recognized storytellers and change-makers, contributing to a more dynamic and enriched society.🔍 Reflecting on my own practice, I've realized the importance of leading with integrity, self-awareness, justice, and creativity. These principles have not only shaped my approach but also enabled me to navigate complex situations with empathy and understanding. From being a student liaison during a challenging time to advocating for fair treatment and fostering an environment of creativity and innovation, these experiences have reinforced my belief in these core values. As I continue my doctoral journey, I remain committed to these principles, striving to make a meaningful impact in the world of public health. Let's reimagine and reshape this profession together, one creative, just, and self-aware step at a time. #Leadership #PublicHealth #CreativityInPublicHealth #DoctoralJourney #Reflections #BeignetsAndDoctorate

Chanced upon and completed an interesting course on the Participatory Action Research (PAR) framework and methodology, conducted by Prof Helen Ward of Imperial College London. PAR is a collaborative approach to research which emphasizes doing, knowing and changing. What struck me was the level of co-creation and co-learning that is proposed by this approach in research. In the highly complicated and hyper-specialized world of academia, the people groups which we may research on become more and more alienated from our work. PAR challenges researchers to engage in critical reflexivity, and do research *with* rather than *on/for* their target groups. Public Health as a field of research can stand to greatly benefit from the adoption of PAR, as shown by the case studies raised in the course. Excited to continue with the next 2 lessons of the Participatory Approaches in Public Health Specialization, and gain insights on how to incorporate this in my future work and strategies! #participatoryresearch #publichealth https://lnkd.in/gk6Prb39

Just wrapped up an enlightening two weeks diving deep into Evaluating Public Health Programs at Scale with Johns Hopkins University! 📊💡We delved into crucial questions about program implementation and impact. Is the program reaching its intended strength to achieve the desired outcomes? Are the services effectively utilized by the target population? These questions are pivotal in assessing the effectiveness of public health initiatives. We explored various methodologies for evaluating program implementation strength, including the RADAR implementation strength assessment tools. These tools provide invaluable insights into the robustness of program execution, helping us identify areas for improvement and optimization.Furthermore, we examined the significance of assessing utilization within the health systems context for comprehensive program evaluation. Understanding how services are utilized by the target population offers critical insights into the program's reach and effectiveness within the broader healthcare landscape.I'm truly grateful for the opportunity to deepen my understanding of public health program evaluation with Johns Hopkins University. Looking forward to applying these insights to drive meaningful impact in public health initiatives! #PublicHealth #ProgramEvaluation #JohnsHopkinsUniversity

This is a staggering finding that over 50% of Medicare drug spending is going to intermediaries and not beneficiaries. Medicare is estimated to be going bankrupt by 2025 in part due to the draining of the fund by the Medicare Advantage plans of insurers that have a margin that is 2x that of the commercial and individual markets. Is it time to have regulators step in and monitor the excess profiteering that is occurring? This is a huge wealth transfer from taxpayers to the healthcare intermediaries."Medicare trustees say the Part A program will begin running deficits again in 2025, drawing down the trust fund until it depletes in2031. After that date, the program would not be bringing in enough money to fully pay out Part A benefits."This is a staggering finding that over 50% of Medicare drug spending is going to intermediaries and not beneficiaries. After a well earned summer break I am excited to begin my next class at John Hopkins -Foundation of Public Health. Winslow defines Public Health as the the art and science of preventing disease, prolonging life promoting health through organized efforts and informed choices…”. As I continue my public health journey it is interesting to consider how my micro med device job meshes with this macro level discipline? How does the US differ from the global perspective? How do we define the boundaries of public health and most importantly how do we put planning into action? Insight is always improved with new perspectives. I am excited to continue my journey in this vital discipline!
